Don Eick Mr. Don Eick was selected for the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Award for November 2012 for his volunteer work at Meek Estate Park.
Several years ago, the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District identified a project at Meek Estate Park that could be completed by volunteer groups. On several occasions for the “Week of Caring” and “Helping Hands”, volunteers painted sections of the Meek Estate Park perimeter fence. The project started at the west end of the park along Hampton Road and continued eastward. Earlier this year, the fence painting had progressed to the corner of Hampton and Boston Roads.
Don contacted District
Staff and volunteered to finish painting the fence along Boston Road.
He began painting the fence in May 2012 and completed the project in
November 2012, having done so safely and professionally over the seven
month period. Don estimates that he spent approximately 168 hours and
painted about 1,000 sq.ft. of fencing.
Don has been retired as
a Steam Fitter for five years and has lived in Hayward for 37 years on
Boston Road across from the Park. The District is very thankful for the
time and energy that Don volunteered and was pleased to recognize him
for his volunteer service as a well-deserving recipient of the Board of
Directors’ Monthly Volunteer Recognition Award. He will be eligible for
the Volunteer-of-the-Year Award for 2012.
