, a volunteer in the Gymnastics Program at the Castro
Valley Community Center, has been selected for the March 2009 Monthly
Volunteer Recognition Award.
Emily was originally a participant in the District’s Gymnastics Program. She
remained in the program for over four years and looked forward very much
to becoming a volunteer so that she could give back to the program, which
gave her so much. Emily now teaches gymnastics to children ages
3-1/2 to 6-1/2. She leads them in warm up exercises, circle time,
stretches, and helps the younger students build their skill and self-esteem. She
comes in every Saturday morning for two hours to help children feel comfortable
on bars and beams, and build their self-confidence, thereby allowing
instructors to give individual much-needed attention to the younger students.
Emily keeps everyone very happy and the students look forward to returning
to the program every year.
Emily will be eligible for the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2009,
which will be announced in January of 2010.
