Dana Moehle has been a regular volunteer at Hayward Shoreline Interpretive
Center's monthly trash removal and invasive plant removal programs for the past
two years. As a local Chabot College student, she first joined our efforts at the
annual Coastal Cleanup event in 2017, coordinating the participation of several
other volunteers from Chabot College's environmental club, Revolutionaries
Advocating for Greener Ecosystems (RAGE). Since then, Ms. Moehle has been a
familiar and friendly face at our volunteer events, and has grown participation
through her own efforts, publicizing and recruiting through RAGE.
Ms. Moehle's
dedication to environmentalism and making a big impact locally is evident in her
professionalism in coordinating with us here at the Interpretive Center, not to
mention the many tireless hours picking up hazardous trash and invasive plants.
Though it is hard to exactly quantify the number of hazardous cigarette butts
collected, pounds of invasive and stubborn black mustard bagged, trash types
identified and recorded, and time spent completely removing the roots of invasive
oxalis, what we can say with absolute certainty is that the Hayward Shoreline has
been made better since Ms. Moehle came along.
