Linda Cooper began volunteering at the Kenneth C. Aitken Senior & Community Center in May of 2021 during the pandemic. Linda volunteers in the senior to go lunch program on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30am-1:00pm. Linda assists in distributing the "to go" meals outside in the lunch pick up line. She is a friendly volunteer who interacts with the seniors during the pick up process. For some of our seniors this is the only in person interaction they had early on in the pandemic and it brought them great joy and comfort. Linda is a very hard working and reliable volunteer. Not only did she begin her volunteer work during a pandemic under already stressful and unknown circumstances, but she has become an integral part of our senior nutrition program. Linda originally agreed to work one day a week and soon after added another day, greatly helping the Senior Center staff. She is very flexible and willing to fill in for other volunteers when they will be absent. Linda never complains even while working outside in the heat, cold and rain. Senior Center staff can count on Linda to get the job done and be a great role model for other program volunteers. Linda Cooper is a wonderful volunteer, who gives her time generously and is devoted to helping seniors of the community. She is a wonderful asset to the Hayward Area Recreation & Park District. She is very deserving to receive the Board of Directors February 2022 Volunteer of the Month Award.
