Since 2018, Mr. Laurie DeSeguirant has been an active member of the HARD
Foundation Board of Directors. This all-volunteer Board has been working diligently to
raise funds for scholarships, and the re-establishment of programs after Covid-19 has
taken extra work from the Board. While it was difficult to select just one volunteer from this
active group, Laurie’s participation in 2022 has been particularly noteworthy.
The HARD Foundation joined the National Association of Park Foundations this past year
and Laurie has participated in board training provided by them. He has shared this
experience, as well as his business acumen with the HARD Foundation, and was active in
the recent recruitment for the Foundation Executive Director. In addition to providing
comments on the job description and interview questions, he participated in one of the
interview panels providing valuable insight and leadership.
Laurie was also an extremely active member of the Golf Tournament Committee. This
year to reduce costs and increase fundraising, the committee decided to not hire a
professional event planner. This meant that the entire committee took on increased work
roles for the event. Laurie actively participated in each of the planning meetings. In
addition to this “behind-the-scenes” work, Laurie played a very critical and public role
during the event by serving as both the emcee and the lunchtime entertainment. His skills
and talents allowed the live auction to raise scholarship funds, and also provided elegant and
fun lunchtime entertainment for the event. His good humor and kind comments set
the tone for a warm and successful event.
The Foundation benefits from Laurie’s participation and we are indebted to his volunteer
service. He is well deserving to be recognized as the November 2022 Volunteer of the
Month.
