Bidwell Park & Community Center Renovation

Bidwell Workshop 1 Postcard_Front

We want your feedback!  Please take this Bidwell Park & Community Center Renovation ONLINE SURVEY! Your participation will continue to guide the development of this future community resource. The online survey will close on March 31 (Fri) at noon.

The Bidwell Park & Community Center project provides for the renovation of the existing park and the former Bidwell Elementary School to create a new community center in south Hayward.

The Bidwell Park master plan process began in the summer of 2019 and was done in conjunction with the master plan for El Rancho Verde Park. Community workshops were held in the neighborhood in June, August, and October 2019.

At the community meeting in October 2019, the community expressed support for the Bidwell Park master plan which incorporates park improvements they prefer in their neighborhood. The park is designed to be an attractive neighborhood amenity that welcomes users of all ages. The Bidwell Park master plan depicts two buildings along Fairway Street converted into a community center, an expanded children’s play area, walking paths, multi-use sports court area, bocce ball, group fitness court, event plaza, and gazebo, small- and large-dog park areas, picnic tables, trees, edible gardens, and an expansive multi-use lawn area. Diagonal parking is proposed along Fairway and Rousseau streets.

In November 2020, the environmental review per the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) was completed, and the Board of Directors approved the master plan for Bidwell Park.

The development of construction documents began in 2022. Demolition of a classroom building in the park interior was completed in November 2022 in advance of the park renovation.
