Alameda County Agricultural History Center

Alameda County Agricultural History Center welcomes visitors to explore the land, stories, and people who shaped local agriculture—from the Ohlone people who first stewarded the land, to generations of farmers and ranchers, and today’s diverse communities across Alameda County.

Alameda County Agricultural History Center at Meek Estate Park is located at 240 Hampton Road in Cherryland. It features a Historic Fruit Orchard, Agricultural Demonstration Garden, and Carriage House Museum. The Center invites families, students, and community members to connect with Alameda County’s agricultural legacy through self-guided visits, group tours, seasonal events, and hands-on experiences.

Mission: Alameda County Agriculture History Center seeks to provide the community with a space dedicated to:

  • Agricultural Education and Foodways Awareness
  • Historic and Cultural Preservation
  • Community Access, Healthy Eating, and Well-Being
  • Land Stewardship and Environmental Justice
  • Storytelling

Brief History: Built in 2025, the Alameda County Agriculture History Center invites community members to step into a living agricultural story. Located at Meek Estate Park, it rests on land cared for thousands of years—first by the Yrgin and Jalquin Ohlone people and later by farmers, including the Meek Family. Today, the Center proudly carries that legacy forward by offering visitors opportunities to explore Alameda County’s deep and lasting connections between land, history, and food.

From native plants and historic orchards to time-honored farming tools and fertile soil, the stories shared at Alameda County Agricultural History Center are rooted in the past and still growing toward the future. Discover Ohlone stewardship in the Native American Food Forest. Stroll among vibrant blooms and row crops that once thrived in the region’s rich soil. Uncover the tools that helped power Hayward’s orchard economy. Or, spark your own creativity by learning how to start your own container garden. There’s something here for everyone: Come explore, learn and be inspired by nature.
